At Atlas Learning ("Atlas," "we," or "us"), we respect the concern of privacy for the online visitors to our website ("Website Visitors"), schools who contract with our Clients to utilize our Service ("Schools"), and students whose information we may have access to on behalf of a School ("Students"). Atlas provides a platform that enables Students to securely access digital content and curriculum purchased by the School and associated member-Teachers. By agreeing to this Privacy Policy and other Terms of Use associated with this Privacy Policy, a School’s Administrator is authorizing Teacher and Student data to be transmitted and integrated through Cosmos. This privacy policy applies to our website https://cosmos.school, https://atlaslearning.net, and to the Cosmos platform (our "Service") and describes the steps we take to protect your data.



Atlas Learning will collect, use, maintain, and disclose information from users of the Atlas Learning and Cosmos website, White Labeled Web-Sites featuring content offered by our Clients (hereinafter referred to as “Portal”), all Student and/or Teacher facing websites provided by this Service, and all Atlas Learning branded applications offered by Atlas Learning (Cosmos, Apollo, Publisher, Portal, and Go) pursuant to this Privacy Policy. ATLAS LEARNING WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INFORMATION UPLOADED BY TEACHER OR STUDENTS THROUGH BOTH THE SERVICE WE PROVIDE OR INFORMATION UPLOADED THROUGH OTHER THIRD PARTY APPLICATIONS AUTHORIZED BY THE SCHOOL THAT ARE IN VIOLATION OF BOTH UNITED STATES AND INTERNATIONAL STUDENT DATA PRIVACY LAWS. THIS INCLUDES, BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO, ANY INFORMATION UPLOADED BY TEACHERS OR STUDENTS INTO THIRD PARTY LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS IN RESPONSE TO CONTENT HOSTED BY OUR SERVICE AND VIEWED VIA INTEGRATION THROUGH SAID LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM.



Information collection and use



We may collect the following information:



School Info: We ask for certain information when a School administrator registers a School on Cosmos or if the administrator corresponds with us online, including first/last name, school name, school district, school email address and/or account name and password, phone number, message content, and information relating to the School's information systems (including their Learning Management Systems). We may also retain information provided by a School if the School sends us a message, posts content to our website or through our Service, or responds to emails or surveys. Once a School begins using the Cosmos Service, we will collect content and information provided by the School through the School's use of the Service and we will keep records of activities related to the Service. We use this information to operate and maintain the features and functionality of the Service, to analyze and improve our Service offerings and functionality, and to communicate with our Clients and website visitors.



Student Personally Identifiable Information Data: Through the course of providing its Service to a School on behalf of a Client, Cosmos may have access to personally identifiable information (PII) about students ("Student Data") that is provided by the School, a parent or guardian, an authorized Teacher with the School, an authorized School Administrator, a third-party applications approved by the School (including, but not limited to the School’s Learning Management System), or a Student. Cosmos has access to PII Student Data only for the purposes of performing Services on the School's behalf.



Outcome and Usage Data: The type of Outcome Data we collect will depend on how the School uses the Service and the third-party learning applications which the School connects through the Service. Collection of Outcome Data includes, but is not limited to, the collection of data related to User Engagement and/or Outcomes (e.g., Student grades on assignments or quizzes originating from use of the Service). This Outcome Data is required in order to provide the Teacher with insights into Student Progress on content delivered through the Service.



As is common for all web-based applications, certain usage information is automatically collected when you utilize our Services, read our emails, or otherwise engage with us. While using any of the services associated with Cosmos, we collect information through a variety of tracking technologies, including cookies and Internet Protocol (IP) Addresses.



Personally Identifiable Information may be collected from Users in a variety of ways, including, but not limited to, when users visit our website, when users create an account, and in connection with other activities, services, features or resources we make available via our products. Users may be asked for their first/last name, email address, mailing/billing address, credit card information, and phone number. Users can always refuse to supply personal identification information, but it may prevent them from engaging in, or getting the most out of, certain application functions.  



Any Student Data collected while using the Services offered is considered confidential and will not be used for any purpose other than to provide our service on our Client’s behalf pursuant to the contractual agreements between our Client’s and their client Schools.



All collection, use, and disclosure of Student Data is governed by our our Terms of Use, our Additional Terms of Use for Schools, and/or any other agreement with the School, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), any applicable state laws which relate to the collection of Student Data, and/or any other agreement with the School. Please contact your School if you have questions about the School's use of technology service providers like Cosmos.



Anonymous Aggregate Data: By utilizing our Services and agreeing to our Privacy Policy, Schools agree that Student outcomes, interactions, progress, and all engagement metrics originating from the use of our Service, after removal of personally identifiable information, may be stored and will be collected. Collection Data is utilized in order to provide our Clients with Aggregate non-identifiable reports on efficacy, outcome, and usage solely for the express purpose of providing increased results and more efficient use of Client Content.





Non-personal Identification Information: We may also collect non-personal identification information about users whenever they interact with our products. Non-personal identification information may include the browser name, the type of computer and technical information about the user’s means of connection to our products, such as the operating system, the Internet service providers utilized, and other similar information.



Web Browser Cookies: Our website may use "cookies" to enhance user’s experience. A user's web browser places cookies on their hard drive for record-keeping purposes and sometimes to track information about them. Users may choose to set their web browser to refuse cookies, or to alert them when cookies are being sent, but this may result in some parts of the website not functioning properly. Storage and processing: Any information collected through the Service is stored and processed in the United States. If you use our Service outside of the United States, you consent to have your data transferred to the United States.

Keeping information safe: Atlas Learning maintains strict administrative, technical and physical procedures to protect information stored in our servers, which are located in the United States. Access to information is limited (through user/password credentials and two factor authentication) to those employees who require it to perform their job functions. We use industry-standard Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption technology to safeguard the account registration process and sign-up information. Other security safeguards include but are not limited to data encryption, firewalls, and physical access controls to building and files. All data is stored on servers that meet or exceed security requirements outlined in The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.

Sharing Your Personal Information: We do not sell, trade, or rent users' Student PII to others. While Teacher or Administrator PII will never be sold to unrelated third party companies, some information such as names and email address must be provided to Publishers that have contracted with their client schools in order to provide access to the Services we provide. We will not allow unrelated third parties to use your personal information without your consent. We may share generic aggregate information not linked to any personal identification information regarding visitors and users with our business partners, trusted affiliates, and advertisers for the purposes outlined above.



We may disclose and share personal information with the third parties listed below. By agreeing to this Privacy Policy, you accept and agree that this may include the transfer of your personal information to other countries around the world, which may not have the same data protection laws as your country of residence.



We may share your personal information:

  1. with our group companies or any entity which acquires any part of our business;

  2. with our service providers (including, for example, suppliers who develop or host our website or who operate mail list services for us);

  3. with third-party search engines that may index user profile pages and usernames as part of the URL of the user profile page by default;
